Aly woke in the middle of the night, and found herself in a very familiar state of not-quite-waking, but there was something different about this one--where was Kyprioth? He normally came to her during these not-dreams, so where was he now?
HELLO, ALIANNE, a voice said out of the shadows, and Aly whirled in the directed it came from to see a familiar black-cowled figure.
"You can talk?" Aly blinked--and then cursed herself. That could be counted disrespect, couldn't it? But no one had ever told her that the Black God could talk...
Thankfully, the God of Death seemed to find her amusing. YES, it--He?--said. I DON'T OFTEN CHOOSE TO, BUT YES, I CAN TALK.
"Er." Aly shifted nervously, then sighed. "I suppose I'm supposed to go with you, then?" She frowned. "Though forgive me if I can't quite figure out why...I didn't eat something poisonous, did I? No one's come and cut my throat in my sleep?"
NO, NO, the figure said. YOU ARE STILL ALIVE.
"Meaning no disrepect, then, sir, but why are you here?" Aly looked at the Black God, and was surprised to see it look almost...sad? Did gods get sad?
I GET...LONELY, SOMETIMES, the voice said, and seemed to sigh. YOU SEEMED LIKE ONE WHO WOULD NOT MIND KEEPING ONE SUCH AS MYSELF COMPANY FOR A NIGHT.
"Oh," Aly said. Company? Well, she could do that, she supposed. "I'd be honored to keep you company, then."
THANK YOU, ALIANNE. And, for a moment, that aura of sadness seemed to lift.
