In college I had a Nevadan threaten to run me through with a sword (it was during a rehearsal of a Shakespeare play) if I called it "Ne-vaw-da" again. "Only fucking Californians and fucking Mexicans call it that!" he howled.
I've never pronounced it in the Spanish fashion again--even when we got a cat named.... Nevada.
And the fic was lovely. Ron and Hermione soothing the Wild Harry--very sweet.
