I just read A Game of Thrones by George R.R. Martin. Oh. My. God. Why have I not read this book before?

I've got the next three out of the library. I know what I'm going to be doing tonight.

Also, I spent yesterday and today replaying KH1, since it's been a while, and while I definitely like KH2 more (dude, I already want to start a fifth game, and I've only had it for a month), there are lots of little details in KH1 that I forgot, but that would be useful for fic. Like that the Heartless came into being nine years pre-KH1, and that Riku created the first Anti-Sora. Hmmmm...

I got two reviews today for Once a King. Considering I posted that in early January, I was a bit surprised to get two new reviews in one day. Totally not complaining at all, especially as this is a fic I'm still rather fond of, but still. I don't often get reviews on old fics. :p

Do not ask me about real life stuff. I'm totally trying not to think about it. Off to read A Clash of Kings now.

Hehehehehe...it's always lovely to see another ASOIAF convert!

Just to warn you, though...don't get too attached to characters. The author's not afraid to kill them off! Just look at what happened to poor Ned...

Kill...or maim. But you know, when I first read A Game of Thrones, I was absolutely thrilled that there weren't any characters that were "safe" because they were the protagonists or the love interests or whatever. Events could occur in the way that they naturally would without any writerly protection changing things.

And yes, I love the characters despite the fact that I know that Martin is utterly, utterly ruthless and that he's going to keep breaking my heart.

The fifth book, A Dance With Dragons, is due to be published in June 2007. You can find the forthcoming book on Amazon.co.uk, though not on Amazon.com, for some weird reason.

Oh, and Martin's written a few short stories in the same universe, set a couple of hundred years before the events in the ASOIAF series. (And he refers to the short story characters in the books, as well.)

Ohh, those are going to keep you busy for awhile.

He did an author's appearance here a few months ago, and not only is he a good writer, he's a funny guy. If you ever get the chance, very worth making the effort to go see him.

Another ASOIAF convert! Wheee!

Heheheee. They're amazing, aren't they? Can't wait to hear your thoughts and theories. :)

*hee* And another one gets sucked in! They're marvelous, aren't they?

I just finished my re-read of Clash of Kings this morning, so I'm off to start Storm of Swords. And then I can finally read Feast for Crows! I read the books 3 or 4 years ago, and I had forgotten far too much to just pick up Crows and read it, even though I've had it for ages now.

(he's got a lj, btw! [livejournal.com profile] grrm)

Oh, Ned...I liked him! But I read A Clash of Kings today, and when Catelyn got the letter about Bran and Rickon, I was just like: "O.O Please don't have killed off Bran!" And then I was relieved, but I still remembered your comment. :p

Well, I'm a quick reader, and have already finished A Clash of Kings and am into A Storm of Swords. These books are hard to put down, so maybe I'll be even quicker than usual, despite the length. They're so good!

They are. I'm neglecting my job search because of them. XD I finished A Clash of Kings today, and am into A Storm of Swords, and it was hard enough to put that down long enough to check my email and flist. :p

Totally marvelous. I'm into Storm of Swords now, and then I can read Feast for Crows, and then despair because the next one isn't done yet. :p

Events could occur in the way that they naturally would without any writerly protection changing things.

That thrills me too, even as it scares me. I love the realism, even as I ache for poor Ned Stark and everyone else. And I can't help but love the characters--they're so real too.

Thanks for the info on the fifth book! I've still got three and four to read, but I'm totally going to be eagerly awaiting June 2007. :)

Well, for the last chapter of Feet on the Ground, you're just waiting on my beta. :p And for anything else, my computer is still dead, so until I get a new battery, I can't get into any of my WsIP. *sigh*

(Yes, it totally is. :D)
