One year LJ anniversary!
Oct. 5th, 2004 09:24 pmSooo, today is my one year anniversary of having gotten a LJ. Go me! *g* To commemorate the occasion, I will proceed to do two things: post stats (which I go o.O over kinda), and do this sorta introduction of me kinda thing (the idea of which I originally got from
hi1arity, but hey, it's a cool idea!), which will include various things like friending policies and smut policies and so on. Brace yourself.

1. Friending
I don't friend everyone back. This is not because I don't love you (though er, I most likely don't even know you...) or don't want to get to know you or any of that. It's more that I don't usually have as much time for reading the flist as I would like, and I don't use filters, really. I'm afraid I'll miss something. But mostly the people who are on my flist are a. my personal friends (meaning basically the people online I am friendly with and like talking to--there are no RL people on my flist), b. artists (because I love looking at art like whoa, especially Remus/Sirius. More on that later), c. writers (mainly Remus/Sirius writers--again more on R/S later--who have good grammar and good grasps on the characters), d. essayists who I find interesting, or e. people I work with. None of these categories are mutually exclusive--I am especially envious of those who can write and can do art.
If you've friended me and want me to friend you back (...I hope that doesn't come across as arrogant or anything. I totally don't mean it like that. I'm amazed as many people have friended me as they have. o.O), then the best way to get my attention is to link me to your fic/art/essays. I usually at least take a look at what I'm linked to, and if I like it, I'll probably friend you. :)
Also, friends-locking is rare. I do it, but really only when it has to do with RL that I'd rather people I know didn't read--I know some people I know in RL sporadically read this journal. There's few things that I would really mind them coming across, and that's the only reason I would lock something, really. So you're not missing out on much if I don't friend you back.
2. Smut
This section is revised because I am now eighteen and therefore legal to read smut and look at porny pictures. Heh. But in any case...when I write smut, I won't lock it or anything, cuz it would be really damn hypocritical of me to try and stop underage people from reading smut when I did it myself.
3. Who am I: Real Life
Hi. *waves* My name is Corinne Ruby [last name removed], more commonly known as Rynne online and Corie in RL (a term which I use just for convenience's sake, as you people here on the internet are no less real than those I know personally). I was born September 16, 1987, in Reno, Nevada, the state that has more slot machines than people, though I am currently attending the University of Puget Sound in Washington. My parents are bleeding heart liberals, and I am the most liberal person in my Government class, according to the test on this site, and I would be voting Kerry, if I was old enough to vote. [Later edition--Damn Bush.] I'm somewhere between atheist and agnostic, though more on the atheist side. I once wrote an essay on why gay marriage should be legalized. I have at least six hundred books lying somewhere around my room, my desk is messy like you wouldn't believe, I'm learning how to fight with a katana, and I can crochet. If given a choice, I would sleep until two in the afternoon and go to bed at five in the morning. I'm a video game and anime nut, especially for the fantasy genre.
I'm about 5'9 and slightly overweight. I have chest-length brown hair that curls amazingly, to my pride and sometimes annoyance--I frequently call it Hermione-hair. I have one blue eye and one green eye, I wear glasses because things get blurry at about three or four inches away without them, and I've been half-blind ever since I was born with a cataract and had it removed when I was roughly five months old. I have a fraternal twin sister, so we don't look alike, and a little sister who is sometimes more annoying than she has any right to be, but is often amazingly sweet. I have a dog named Comet after the dog on Full House (though it was my sisters who named him!), and I once had a goldfish that I named Dog.
Want to know more about my life? Ask and ye shall receive. (Possibly--depends what you ask. *g*)
4: Who am I: Fandom
Well, far more active, for a start. Look at my current name--"real life dropout and online overachiever". This is because I currently hold down three volunteer jobs at FictionAlley--mod, coder, and eMentor--as well as being the mod of a couple communities here on LJ (
mpp_ot3,
shakespeare_ch, and
halloweenfics), plus maintaining my R/S reclist, which includes links to fics, essays, websites, and more. I spend quite a bit of time on duties for one or more of these things, hence why I might be delayed on other things, like fic.
Now for something important...much of what I do in fandom (reading, writing, discussing, etc) has to do with my OTP of OTPs, Remus/Sirius. I don't know when precisely it started, or what precisely started it, but I love that pairing so, and insulting it is a good way to get me...put out at you, shall we say. I won't go into all the reasons that I love it right now, as I mean to devote an entire post to that sometime later, but suffice to say that it is what I read most often and write most often, and that I tend to pay attention to people based on their activity (fic, art, essays, etc) in the R/S subfandom. You want to discuss this pairing with me? Please do! I love it so much...*happy sigh at the very thought*
I also am quite interested in meta. I often lurk at meta entries that are linked to on
daily_snitch and
quickquote, and I mod one of the meta forums at FAP. Sometimes I initiate discussions of my own, but those either tend to be flops or too busy for my own good. *g*
I write. A lot. And if I tell people to request drabbles, I try to be punctual, though that's getting less and less possible, sigh. I have a big monstrous work in progress that I am currently ignoring, but will sooner or later get to writing again. I participate in
queerditch_pub weekly, because it's just OMG SO MUCH FUN. *g* But most often I write one-shots. You can find a list of my fics on LJ here, though I need to update that again. All fic comes to LJ before it goes to any other archive.
5. Who am I: Non-HP Fandom
My very first fandom ever was Mercedes Lackey's Valdemar. Now that I am not thirteen years old anymore, I am well aware that some of her work contains Mary Sues. I don't care. I honestly don't mind Mary Sues in published work--it's only fanfic that they bother me, because I read fanfic for the characters I love, not for the made-up ones someone else loves. Mary Sues aren't the worst thing in the world, after all.
My second fandom is Final Fantasy. I play video games, I've been playing video games for at least half my life, and I love them almost as much as reading. Final Fantasy by Squaresoft and Legend of Zelda by Nintendo are my favorites, because they are the ones with my favorite stories. And I admit to having crushes on Zidane, Sephiroth, and Link. *g* Final Fantasy IX was my first FF, and it is still my favorite, mostly because of Zidane. But the FF subfandom I actually read and sometimes write in is VII, because it contains my video games OTP of Cloud/Sephiroth, which was solely inspired by my all-time favorite thing to read, published book or fanfiction, A Long, Hard Road by
twigcollins. I have played FFIV through X-2, have beaten VI through X-2, and have been anal enough to have a perfect game in VII through X-2, as well as all the Legend of Zelda games I have.
I like watching anime too, mostly the fantasy genre. My favorites are Rurouni Kenshin, Slayers, Fushigi Yugi, Escaflowne, Magic Knight Rayearth, and Inuyasha. I sometimes read fanfic in these fandoms, but less often than in video games, and far less often than HP.
I am odd in that, outside of HP and FFVII, I tend to prefer the canon couples to odd ones. Many fans of Cloud/Sephiroth that I know of also tend to be fans of FFVIII's yaoi pairing Squall/Seifer. I like the canon het pairing Squall/Rinoa. Same thing in most other FFs--I prefer the canon het to the fanon yaoi. And this trend is, in fact, true for every single one of my fandoms, save Harry Potter (though I do like the canon pairings, they don't really interest me as much) and FFVII.
And now, after having seen Revenge of the Sith in May and being inspired to see the original Star Wars trilogy for the first time, I've been pulled into the Star Wars fandom. It's my Shiny Thing of the moment (or rather longer, as I've been obsessed with it now for months and show no sign of slowing down), and I've started writing actual fic for it. I'm in love with Luke Skywalker, so probably most of what I write will have him as a central character. I've read some of the Extended Universe, and while parts of it I like (Mara Jade, Luke/Mara, and Corran Horn), many parts of it I don't like (Dark Empire, among other things) and will ignore. I think of the EU as more guidelines than canon, so I'll pick and choose what I want from there in my stories, I think. We'll have to see, when I write more fics. *g*
Other random fandoms I like and sometimes read in are Good Omens, Tamora Pierce books, Labyrinth, and Pirates of the Carribean.
There's more, isn't there? *ponders* Ah well, I can't remember what else I should talk about, though if you've made it this far, congratulations! And if there's anything you want to know about fandom!me...ask and ye shall receive, really. :D

Date: 2004-10-06 04:31 am (UTC)And I really liked all the info on you, as it helps me get a bigger idea that just a computer screen. :)
So some comments on the RL stuff: You're liberal? Somehow I could have guessed. I guess I am too, though since I go to a very snobby, very conservative school (which stands to lose a lot of money if the left-wingers win), I don't really advertise that much. I am actually old enough to vote - slightly scary to realise I am over a year older than you - but it's here in Oz, so you probably don't care.
Oh and the gay marriage essay - our major English assignment was an analysis on that topic. I was also for it (and I got 100%, which was of the good)
I can also fing great similarities when it comes to the state of our room, amount of books and sleeping habits.
Drat it! Yet another person taller than me. I am 5'5, though I could be a little off (I am used to the metric system), though I think your eyes sound cool.
And weirdly enough, I also have a dog named Comet, also named by my little sister.

My whole family is quite tall :D. The shortest person in it is my twin, who's about 5'6, and then my little sister is six feet tall...XD

Date: 2004-10-07 06:05 pm (UTC)Heh, thanks. I don't know about that, really, as it seems to be that I can wax eloquent until I start babbling on about myself, at which point I start sounding pretentious and making strange noises. XD I don't know, however; maybe it'll be utterly brilliant, and you can give the verdict once I get around to writing it.

And just to know: I missed BetaReader Appreciation Day - but I do appreciate you. Lots. Massive amounts. You've put me back on track at times (in fact, "A Cure for Hysteria" is currently being re-written rather severly as "A Cure for Claustrophobia" because of your comments that made me realise I was OOC).
Thank you for being a terrific beta!
As for hair - yes I can really sympathise with that. About 2 months ago I went from waist-length hair (that was about 1 foot wide when dry, brushed and fully bushy) to shoulder length slightly tamed hair (still extremely curly though). Bad hair days really are a pain!!!
