So over dinner tonight, the conversation turned somehow to records, and Twin was like, "Hey, let's listen to some of our old ones!"

We went to find them, and OMG TREASURE TROVE. I was in heaven over all my dad's old records--he has like all the Moody Blues albums, and some Simon and Garfunkle, and CCR, and the Eagles, and Santana, and the Beatles, and just OMG HEAVEN. And Twin was exclaiming over The Police, and Leonard Cohen...

So we got the record player (from 1978, according to my dad) out of the garage, and we just spent the last hour or so listening to songs. My dad and I were singing along to Simon and Garfunkle's "Mrs. Robinson", and then to CCR's "Lodi" (we like it especially because my dad was born and grew up in Lodi, and we like CCR because they went to high school with my aunt and I think one of them came to her wedding), and we listened to a bunch of our old children's records, like this one about unicorns that didn't make it on Noah's Ark, and these songs about bunnies, and Puff the Magic Dragon, and It's A Small World...

My childhood was recreated tonight and I am HAPPY.

Also: I turned in my application to Barnes and Noble. *nervous* My first job application...

Yay! I love it when my dad brings out the old records. With him, it's all this fantastic jazz--John Coltrane, Miles Davis, etc.--on this creaky old turntable that somehow still works despite the fact that it predates the Renaissance.

My childhood was recreated tonight and I am HAPPY.
The other night, after a very long day of wrangling with various grown-up things, I went home and read This Can't Be Happening At MacDonald Hall!, one of my favourite books from when I was about ten years old. It made me quite unreasonably happy. :)
