So Twin is gone, on her way to her summer internship. She'll be back in August, but then it'll only be a couple weeks before school starts. Little Sister, who is currently in Australia, will also be home in August. I saw her a few months ago when we went to Thailand, but it'll be nice to have her home for a bit (before all three of us leave for college :p).

And speaking of college, I finally got my housing sorted for next year. I've been trying to get things set up for weeks, but it was only this morning that I was able to get a hold of the person everyone was telling me I needed to talk to. So now I have a dorm and a roommate, which will be a bit odd, but hopefully I can make friends with her.

Last night my two best friends and I got together, and we rented The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai in the Eighth Dimension, which one of my friends and the video store clerk both raved about. It was made in 1984, and was...rather cracky. I think RTD would like it. XD But one of the characters was named Reno Nevada, which cracked all three of us up. Though I guess it wouldn't have been so funny if we didn't live in Reno, Nevada. :p

Finally, a meme I snagged from [livejournal.com profile] goldy_dollar.

1) Do you write or read fanfiction?
Both, though usually reading more than writing.

2) When did you first start reading/writing?
I think the summer of 2001, so I would have been 13.

3) First ship?
You mean the very first ship I was interesting in reading? That would be Kenshin/Kaoru, in Rurouni Kenshin. For the first ship I actually shipped, as in, reading, writing, and discussing, that would be Remus/Sirius, in Harry Potter.

4) What website do you use most?
LJ, and my website. I also post to a few fandom specific websites, and I have a bunch of stuff at Skyehawke and The Archive at the End of the Universe.

5) What do you think of Fanfiction Net?
I...actually sorta like it. It does deserve the name The Pit o' Voles, considering the management seems to be intent on making things difficult for their users, and there's a large, large amount of crap, but if you have the patience for wading through the muck, there are quite a few diamonds. Especially since some of the fandoms I read don't have large archives outside of ff.net.

6) What fandoms have you written in?
Top three in order of numbers are Harry Potter, Star Wars, and Doctor Who. I've also written one or two fics in: Chronicles of Narnia, Final Fantasy VII, The Princess Bride, The X-Files, The West Wing, Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, Kingdom Hearts, Stardust, His Dark Materials, Rurouni Kenshin, Lord of the Rings, and a couple crossovers with Good Omens.

7) Pairings?
Are you asking pairings I've written, or pairings I support? Well, I'll do both, at least for my main fandoms.

Harry Potter
Support: Remus/Sirius, James/Lily, Harry/Ginny, Ron/Hermione, Harry/Ron/Hermione
Written: Remus/Sirius, Remus/James, Remus/Harry, Remus/Hermione, Remus/Tom Riddle, Remus/Regulus, Remus/Lily, Remus/Bill, Remus/Peter, Remus/Charlie, Remus/Sirius/James, James/Lily, Lily/Snape, Lucius/Ginny, Crowley/Hermione, Ron/Hermione, Harry/Ron/Hermione, Harry/Draco, Molly/Arthur

Star Wars
Support: Luke/Mara, Han/Leia
Written: Luke/Mara, Han/Leia, Vader/Padme, Luke/Vader

Doctor Who
Support and written: Doctor/Rose (though since this is my newest fandom, I expect sooner or later I'll branch into writing something weird :p)

I've also written: Lucy/Caspian (Narnia), Sano/Megumi and Sano/Kenshin (Rurouni Kenshin), Faramir/Eowyn (Lord of the Rings), Dunstan/Una and Tristan/Yvaine (Stardust), Cloud/Zack and Cloud/Vincent (Final Fantasy VII), Axel/Roxas (Kingdom Hearts), and Mulder/Scully (X-Files).

8) Any fandoms you would like to write in?
I've started writing Supernatural and Firefly fic, but I never managed to finish anything, so it'd be cool if I could write something there. I also want to write more X-Files, West Wing, and Narnia. Maybe Torchwood and Discworld too.

9) What ratings do you read/write for?
All of them. For written, under my tags I've got over ten uses on each rating (G, PG, PG-13, R, NC-17), and while I do read low-rated fics, I have to confess my favorite kind of fic is long and plotty with sex.

10) Have you ever stolen something from another person's work?
If I did, it wasn't intentional. I've written about things that come up in discussions, and I'm currently writing a fic that uses something distinctive I found in a fic, but I asked the author for permission there. That's about it.

11) Favourite fandom to write/read for?
Doctor Who at the moment, but it seems to change every few years. :p

12) Favorite pairing?
At the moment, Doctor/Rose.

13) Favorite writer/writers?
Damn, this is difficult. Um, [livejournal.com profile] thistlerose, [livejournal.com profile] musesfool, [livejournal.com profile] rallalon, [livejournal.com profile] deaka, [livejournal.com profile] vikkir, [livejournal.com profile] honorh, [livejournal.com profile] shinyopals, and a whole lot more. XD

14) How long should a chapter be?
When I write chaptered fic, I usually shoot for 4000-6000 words. But I confess I rather love long chapters of 10,000+ words. :p

15) Do you write/read drabbles?
Yes. In Star Wars, I've written something like 130 100-word drabbles. It's been awhile since I've written any, but I love the challenge of telling a story in so few words.

16) Any fandoms you avoid?
You mean actively? Not really. There's fandoms I don't really visit any since I've sorta lost interest (like Harry Potter), and I don't tend to poke my nose out of the Doctor/Rose corner of the Doctor Who fandom, but that's about it.

17) Pairings you avoid?
Doctor/not!Rose and Rose/not!Doctor. XD (Though I haven't seen all of Classic Who, so I might find another Doctor pairing I like later.) In the past, I also avoided Harry/Hermione, Remus/Snape, and Remus/Tonks like the plague, though since I don't much read HP anymore, it's not really a matter of avoiding it. :p

18) Do the number of reviews tell how good a story is?
They can give an indication, but I know a great many amazing fics that have very few reviews.

19) What do you think of Mary Sues?
As long as they don't steal the show from the characters I love, whatever.

20) What inspires you to write?
In fanfiction, generally love of the characters, though I also get specific ideas that inspire me. In original stuff, Shiny Ideas. :p

21) Have you ever cried when reading a story?
Not that I can recall, but given I've been reading fic for seven years, that's not to say it hasn't happened. I just don't cry very easily.

22) Do you prefer fanfiction or the original books?

If the books are a spin-off of the original canon, usually fanfic. Like the Star Wars EU--God, some of it is so incredibly crappy, I have no idea how it got published. But if the original canon is a book, I usually prefer it.

Oooo, Buckaroo Banzai! My daddy got that a few years back (I think he might have seen it when it first came out) and had me watch it with him. I do think back to it when watching Doctor Who on occasion, yes.

I keep making "Where are we going?" "Planet 10!" jokes, but no one gets them but me. Which is sad.
